The most affordable EV upgrade of the year? The 2026 Tata Tiago EV brings meaningful touch-ups over its 2022 predecessor. Here’s what’s actually changed.
The new Tata Tiago now sports 6 airbags, a 100km in 18 min charging speed and new exterior transformations that make the vehicle look more premium than ever — all this at a price point that would not have been possible even a few years ago!
Meet the 2026 Tata Tiago EV
Exterior
Following a confident new look, the Tiago EV 2026 has been fitted with Luxe Beam LED headlamps featuring built-in LED DRLs in place of halogen lamps. In addition, the grille has been replaced by a new body colour grille instead of a gloss black as found previously.
The overall style is also more aggressive in the best way, due to newly designed R14 Hyperstyle wheels as well as black coloured wheel arch surrounds on the sides of the Tiago EV, making for a more stable, traction-enhancing vehicle.
However, perhaps a bigger defining change has occurred with the badging on the Tiago EV from an “EV” badge (generic) previously used to now using a “tata.ev” badge telling a more confident story.
Interior
The 2026 Tiago EV’s interior just got a meaningful refresh without a complete overhaul, too. The standout is the free-standing 10.25-inch HD touchscreen paired with a redesigned layered fabric dashboard. A new rotary gear selector, illuminated tata.ev steering logo and dual wireless connectivity to both Android and Apple are all things the Tiago never saw.
The rear AC vents round out an interior that punches noticeably above its price. The use of synthetic polymers on the cabin surfaces and trim is a prominent downside of the Tiago, something that might be an issue for owners looking for a classy interior feel .
Battery & Powertrain
The 2026 model retains the familiar 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options, but the headline upgrade is charging speed. The new Tiago EV adds 100 km of range in just 18 minutes, a 40% improvement over the previous generation’s 25 kW DC fast charging, now upgraded to 30 kW.
The 24 kWh variant delivers 74 BHP and 114 Nm of torque, with a claimed MIDC range of 285 km and a 0–60 kmph sprint in just 5.7 seconds.
And in a segment-first move, Tata is offering a lifetime unlimited-kilometre battery warranty on all 24 kWh variants for the first registered owner — an unthinkable long-term ownership promise!
Safety
With 6 airbags as an expected feature (4 more than before), the 2026 Tiago EV is now one of the safest vehicles in its category. Plus, now you also get the ABS with EBD features; Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control as well as ISOFIX child seat anchors make the car easier and easier to choose!
However, some of these specs are only available in the higher variant. Here is a clear difference of what you are getting with each variant:
| Variant | Additional Features Over Previous Variant |
| Smart (Base Model) | LED headlamps with DRLs, 10.25″ HD touchscreen, 6 airbags, ESC with traction control, rear AC vents, iRA:ev with 40+ connected features |

Exterior
Think about it. Didn’t we all find the 2022 version revolutionary, too? But now, times have changed.
Launched in September 2022, the original Tiago EV drew from the ICE sibling significantly.
The use of halogen headlamps was seen but there weren’t DRLs in question, so the look was still simplistic compared to what we would eventually find on the new Tiago EV. The added use of a gloss black front fascia and the same style of wheel covers — simple, functional but not visually appealing!
Also, the bumpers had a more generic appeal. 2022 represented something that resembled more of an entry level car.
Battery
The outgoing model offered the same 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options, but with slower charging infrastructure. DC fast charging was capped at 25 kW, making top-up sessions noticeably longer. The 24 kWh pack was paired with a 7.2 kW AC charger.
The smaller 19.2 kWh variant came with only a 3.3 kW AC charger, meaning overnight charging was the practical norm.
At launch, the Tiago EV started at ₹8.49 lakh, positioning it as the most affordable EV in India; a title it held comfortably for years. And thankfully the new model beats this price!
Safety
The older Tiago EV launched with just 2 airbags as standard, which by today’s expectations feels downright concerning!
It did include ABS with EBD and rear parking assist, but lacked the depth of electronic safety aids that have now become table stakes. There was no 360-degree camera, no Electronic Stability Programme, and no Hill Hold Control across most variants.
For buyers prioritising safety in 2022, it required stepping up to higher trims to get even basic active safety features — a limitation the 2026 model totally addresses!
What Do We Miss About The 2022 Model?
Overall, the Tata upgrade on Tiago can be considered a success. However, some fan-favourite features from the 2022 model no longer exist in the new version.
The 2022 Tiago EV’s 24 kWh pack claimed a 315 km MIDC range — 30 km more than the 2026 model’s 285 km on the same battery. For buyers stretching the car on intercity runs, that gap is hard to ignore.
The older top-spec XZ+ Tech Lux came with a sunroof, a feature dropped entirely from the 2026 lineup. At this price point, no rival offered one either, making it a genuinely rare inclusion that the newer model chose to sacrifice.
The top 2022 variant also offered leatherette upholstery, giving the cabin a more premium feel than the fabric-only interior of the 2026 facelift. The newer car looks sharper but feels plainer to the touch — a trade-off not every buyer will welcome.
The 2022 model was marginally lighter, translating to slightly better real-world efficiency and more responsive low-speed performance. The additional safety hardware and reinforced body structure on the 2026 model add weight that ever-so-slightly works against the same battery.
Where the 2026 Tiago EV Leads the Pack
Price-to-Feature Ratio
At ₹6.99 lakhs, this is the only electric hatchback in the segment that provides 6 airbags, a 10.25″ touchscreen, and wireless CarPlay all as standard features. No other electric hatchback provides this type of value.
Charging Speed
The enhanced fast 30kW DC chargers can provide an additional 100kms of travel time in just 18 minutes. This will effectively eliminate range anxiety for those who take public transportation daily without having to spend a ton of money on a premium electric vehicle.
Safety at Entry Level
In terms of segment-first offerings, a 360 Degree Surround Vision System (SVS) HD camera (both 2D and 360 Degree) along with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and 6 airbags for all variants represents a new standard of safety. Competitors (at this price level) tend to reserve such equipment for the highest priced options or do not offer it at all.
Lifetime Battery Warranty
The unlimited, lifetime battery warranty offered on the 24 kWh version (for the first owner) is a very bold, confidence giving statement of support. There are no competitive products available in this segment currently offering anything similar.
Where the 2026 Tiago EV Still Falls Behind
Battery Range & Its Reality
When comparing electric vehicles that cost only a little bit more, the allegedly 285 km available from 24 KWH pack does seem rather conservative. Regular intercity drivers or people making long-haul trips may find that they will have to plan their charging more carefully to accommodate these distances and this could make it difficult for some buyers to justify purchasing the Tata Tiago.
Charging Network Dependency
To realize the benefits of fast charging, 30 kW DC(35 kW, standard) chargers must be generally accessible; however, charger availability is often limited to major metropolitan areas. In smaller towns and on highways, the lack of availability could be one of the main barriers to successful charging experiences in the real world.
Boot Space and Dimensions
Luggage room in the Tiago EV is limited so families or people that travel frequently may find that. There are competitors in nearby showrooms that provide use of space while costing only slightly more than the Tiago EV..
The Main Tata Tiago EV Competitor Cars
Closest opponents to the 2026 Tiago EV would be the Citroën ëC3, MG Comet EV and Tata Punch EV. When compared with our Tiago, this is what we get;

Who Should Buy the 2026 Tata Tiago EV?

The 2026 Tiago EV is built for the first-time EV buyer in a metro or Tier-1 city who wants modern tech and genuine safety without crossing the ₹8 lakh threshold.
It suits daily commuters covering 40–80 km a day who can charge at home overnight and occasionally top up on the go.
Young professionals and small families can now purchase the Tiago thanks to the new safety features. In fact, any environment lover stepping up from a petrol hatchback and keen on owning an EV will find the value proposition hard to argue with.
Should Existing Owners Upgrade?
For existing Tiago EV owners, the upgrade case is real but not urgent. The jump to 6 airbags, faster charging, and wireless connectivity is meaningful — but the core driving experience, motor, and battery architecture remain largely unchanged.
But, if safety features are a priority or the lifetime battery warranty is a requirement, you can go for the new model.
If you own the 2022 entry level model and cannot spare overnight charging anymore, look into the market for this car or a better alternative. You will also benefit from waiting out on another facelift before you buy!
Final Verdict
The 2026 Tata Tiago EV is not a reinvention — but it is a sharp, well-aimed correction. For its cheapest EV rollout, Tata has taken an already strong foundation and addressed its most glaring gaps: safety, charging speed, and tech, all while dropping the entry price by over a lakh.
It won’t win on range or cabin luxury, but at ₹6.99 lakh it delivers a package that would have seemed unreasonable at this price just two years ago. For the budget-conscious Indian EV buyer, it remains the most sensible place to start.
Verdict: 4/5 — Best value EV under ₹8 lakh
