2026 Tata Punch True On-Road Price Guide feature banner showing ₹6.26L to ₹12.46L Delhi price range, 118 bhp iTurbo and iCNG options, and 5-Star BNCAP rating

The Tata Punch is advertised from about ₹5.75 lakh, but nobody drives one home for that. Road tax, insurance and registration push the base Smart petrol to roughly ₹6.26 lakh in Delhi. In Bengaluru or Hyderabad, the same car costs about ₹6.83 lakh. On the top CNG automatic, the gap between sticker and cheque grows to about ₹1.69 lakh.

This guide breaks down the Tata Punch on-road price variant by variant, for petrol, turbo-petrol and CNG. It also covers EMI, insurance, running costs and the best-value variant.

CNG rows use the petrol tax slab, so check the RTO line on your quote. Prices are indicative as of October 2026; confirm with your dealer.

How the Tata Punch On-Road Price Is Calculated

Every on-road quote is built from the same few lines. Know them, and padding in a dealer quote is easy to spot.

  1. Ex-showroom price. The price shown in ads and price lists. For how tax changes feed into it, see our explainer on how the GST cut changed car prices.
  2. Road tax. A one-time state tax at registration, charged as a percentage of the ex-showroom price. Delhi charges 4% up to ₹6 lakh. The next slab, up to ₹10 lakh, pays 7%. Above ₹10 lakh, the rate is 10%.
  3. Registration and plates. RTO fee, smart-card RC, HSRP number plates and FASTag, usually a few thousand rupees.
  4. Insurance. A new car must carry three years of third-party cover. Most buyers add one year of own-damage cover.
  5. TCS. Above ₹10 lakh ex-showroom, the dealer collects 1% tax at source (TCS) under income-tax rules. Only the top Punch CNG AMT crosses this line.
  6. Optional extras. Extended warranty, accessory kits and “handling” charges are negotiable.

Worked example: Punch Adventure petrol MT in Delhi

Approximate figures, using the exact listed ex-showroom price.

Item Amount
Ex-showroom price ₹7,76,990
Road tax, Delhi (7%) ₹54,389
Insurance (1-year own damage + 3-year third party) ₹35,000
Registration, HSRP plates, FASTag ₹2,000
On-road price, Delhi ₹8,68,379 (about ₹8.68 lakh)

So a car listed at about ₹7.77 lakh costs roughly ₹8.68 lakh on the road. That is about ₹91,000 more, and road tax and insurance make up almost all of it. Run the sum for your own city with our On-Road Price Calculator.

Why the Punch Costs More in Some Cities

The ex-showroom price is almost the same across India, but road tax is not. Karnataka and Telangana tax cars priced from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh at a higher rate. Both charge about 14% in that band, and Tamil Nadu about 13%.

That is why the same base Punch costs about ₹57,000 more in Bengaluru than in Delhi. Maharashtra charges 11% for petrol cars up to ₹10 lakh. For CNG, it is the odd one out at 8% up to ₹10 lakh. That rate went up from 7% under the 2025-26 state budget.

So a Punch CNG costs only about ₹7,000 more in Mumbai or Pune than in Delhi.

On-road prices are approximate. Tax rates can change, and some states add cesses.

City (state) Road tax rate Smart petrol MT Accomplished+ S petrol MT Smart CNG MT
Delhi 4% / 7% ₹6.26 lakh ₹10.25 lakh ₹7.66 lakh
Bengaluru (Karnataka) 14% ₹6.83 lakh ₹10.89 lakh ₹8.14 lakh
Mumbai / Pune (Maharashtra) 11% petrol, 8% CNG ₹6.66 lakh ₹10.61 lakh ₹7.73 lakh
Hyderabad (Telangana) 14% ₹6.83 lakh ₹10.89 lakh ₹8.14 lakh
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) 13% ₹6.78 lakh ₹10.80 lakh ₹8.07 lakh

Outside Maharashtra, CNG rates are assumed to match petrol.

Tata Punch EMI: Worked Example

The tables assume a 20% down payment on the Delhi on-road estimate. The loan runs for five years (60 months) at three illustrative interest rates. Your actual rate depends on your credit score and lender.

Amounts are approximate and rounded to the nearest ₹1,000.

Variant On-road, Delhi Down payment (20%) Loan amount (80%)
Smart petrol MT ₹6.26 lakh ₹1.25 lakh ₹5.01 lakh
Smart CNG MT ₹7.66 lakh ₹1.53 lakh ₹6.13 lakh
Adventure petrol MT ₹8.68 lakh ₹1.74 lakh ₹6.94 lakh
Accomplished+ S turbo MT ₹11.14 lakh ₹2.23 lakh ₹8.91 lakh

The next table shows illustrative monthly EMIs on those loans.

Variant Loan amount EMI at 8.5% EMI at 9% EMI at 10.5%
Smart petrol MT ₹5.01 lakh ₹10,279 ₹10,400 ₹10,768
Smart CNG MT ₹6.13 lakh ₹12,577 ₹12,725 ₹13,176
Adventure petrol MT ₹6.94 lakh ₹14,238 ₹14,406 ₹14,917
Accomplished+ S turbo MT ₹8.91 lakh ₹18,280 ₹18,496 ₹19,151

Worked example: the Adventure petrol MT costs about ₹8.68 lakh on-road. You pay roughly ₹1.74 lakh down and borrow about ₹6.94 lakh. At 9%, the EMI is about ₹14,406 a month. Over the five-year loan, you pay about ₹1.70 lakh in interest.

Every 1% off the rate saves a few hundred rupees a month. A bigger down payment beats a longer tenure. Try your own numbers in our Vehicle EMI Calculator before you visit the dealer.

Tata Punch Insurance Cost: What Affects It

Insurance is the second-largest add-on after road tax. The first policy on a new car is the costliest. It bundles three years of third-party cover with one year of own-damage cover.

The government-notified base premium for that three-year third-party cover is ₹10,640, excluding GST. This rate applies to new private cars from 1,000 cc to 1,500 cc. The Punch’s 1,199 cc engine falls in this slab.

Premiums are estimates for a private buyer with basic add-ons.

Ex-showroom band (variants) First premium Own-damage renewal, years 2-3 (per year)
Up to ₹6.7 lakh (Smart, Pure petrol) ₹26,000-30,000 ₹8,000-10,000
₹6.8-9.1 lakh (mid petrol trims, AMTs, Adventure turbo, lower CNG) ₹31,000-40,500 ₹10,000-13,000
₹9.1-10.8 lakh (Accomplished+ S trims, upper CNG) ₹41,000-48,500 ₹13,000-16,000

What moves your premium up or down:

  • IDV (insured declared value): linked to the ex-showroom price, so higher variants pay a bigger own-damage premium.
  • No Claim Bonus (NCB): a discount on own damage for each claim-free year, rising to as much as 50%. Pay for minor scratches yourself to protect it.
  • Add-ons: zero depreciation, return-to-invoice, engine protection and consumables. Zero-dep is worth it for the first three years.
  • CNG kit: it adds to the car’s value, so the premium is slightly higher than for petrol.
  • Where you buy it: the dealer’s policy is rarely the cheapest. Compare online quotes with the same IDV and add-ons.

From the fourth year, the third-party part must be renewed every year. Its base rate for this engine class is ₹3,416 a year, excluding GST. You pay it on top of your own-damage premium.

Petrol vs Turbo vs CNG: Which Punch Gives the Best Value?

All three engines share the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder block. They differ in what they cost to buy and to run.

Power and efficiency figures are as reported. Prices are approximate.

Engine Power and torque Gearbox Efficiency Starting ex-showroom price
1.2 NA petrol (1,199 cc) 86.59 bhp, 115 Nm 5-speed MT / AMT 18.8-20.09 kmpl (ARAI) ₹5.75 lakh
1.2 iTurbo petrol (1,199 cc) 118 bhp, 170 Nm 6-speed MT Expected to be lower than the NA petrol in real use ₹8.47 lakh
1.2 iCNG (1,199 cc) 72.39 bhp, 103 Nm MT / AMT Up to 26.99 km/kg (ARAI) ₹6.85 lakh

The CNG maths. A CNG Punch costs about ₹1.03-1.10 lakh more ex-showroom than the same petrol trim. On-road, the gap is roughly ₹1.14-1.40 lakh. In return, it costs about half as much per kilometre.

Estimates use real-world-style efficiency. Petrol is taken at ₹95 a litre and 14 kmpl. CNG is taken at ₹77 a kg and 21 km/kg.

Distance Petrol fuel cost CNG fuel cost CNG saving
Per km ₹6.79 ₹3.67 ₹3.12
10,000 km a year ₹67,857 ₹36,667 ₹31,190
12,000 km a year ₹81,429 ₹44,000 ₹37,429
15,000 km a year ₹1,01,786 ₹55,000 ₹46,786

At these assumptions, CNG saves about ₹3.12 per km. That pays back the extra on-road cost after roughly 37,000 km on the Pure+. On the Smart, it takes about 45,000 km.

If you drive 12,000 km a year, that is three to four years. Under 8,000 km a year, the petrol is the simpler choice. Plug in your own fuel prices with our Fuel Cost Calculator. Check your actual kmpl with the Mileage Calculator.

The trade-off is space. The twin-cylinder CNG keeps about 210 litres of boot, against 366 litres for the petrol. That is fine for the city but tight for family trips.

The turbo. The turbo Adventure costs ₹70,000 more ex-showroom than the Adventure petrol MT. On-road, the gap is about ₹78,000. It brings about 36% more power, 48% more torque and a six-speed manual. Buy it for loaded highway runs, not for low running costs.

Best Tata Punch Variant to Buy for Your Budget

Safety does not depend on how much you spend. Six airbags, ESP and ISOFIX child-seat mounts are standard from the base Smart upwards. The Punch also carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. For how it compares with other top-rated cars, see our list of 5-star NCAP-rated cars in India.

Budgets use the approximate Delhi on-road prices above.

On-road budget, Delhi Variants that fit Our pick Why
Under ₹7 lakh Smart petrol MT Smart petrol MT (₹6.26 lakh) Full safety kit at the lowest price.
₹7-9 lakh Pure to Adventure petrol MT, Pure+ AMT, Smart/Pure CNG Adventure petrol MT (₹8.68 lakh) Adds a 360-degree camera and push-button start.
₹9-11 lakh Upper petrol trims and AMTs, Adventure turbo, most CNG trims Pure+ CNG MT (₹9.16 lakh) or Adventure turbo (₹9.46 lakh) CNG for city mileage; turbo for highways.
Above ₹11 lakh Accomplished+ S turbo MT, Accomplished+ S CNG AMT Accomplished+ S turbo MT (₹11.14 lakh) Fully loaded, with the stronger engine.

Our value pick: the Adventure petrol MT at about ₹8.68 lakh on-road. It adds the 360-degree camera and push-button start over the Pure+ S. It is also the trim where the Punch stops feeling basic. If you drive a lot in the city, the Pure+ CNG MT at about ₹9.16 lakh is the smartest long-term buy.

The top-spec Accomplished+ S trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

Buyers stretching past ₹11 lakh on-road should also look one size up. Our Fronx vs Nexon vs Venue comparison covers that segment. The 2026 Maruti Brezza guide covers a popular alternative.

Against rivals: as of October 2026, the Tata Tiago starts about ₹98,000 lower ex-showroom. The Hyundai Exter and Maruti Swift start within ₹10,000 of the Punch. The bigger Tata Nexon starts about ₹1.65 lakh higher.

Resale Value: What a Punch Is Worth After 3–5 Years

A popular car is easier to sell. Tata says the Punch has won nearly 7 lakh customers since its October 2021 debut. Below is our estimated resale curve for a well-kept, single-owner car.

Values are estimates, shown as a share of the original ex-showroom price.

Age Value kept (% of ex-showroom) Smart petrol MT (₹5.75 lakh new) Adventure petrol MT (₹7.77 lakh new)
1 year 82-88% ₹4.71-5.06 lakh ₹6.37-6.84 lakh
2 years 75-81% ₹4.31-4.66 lakh ₹5.83-6.29 lakh
3 years 68-74% ₹3.91-4.25 lakh ₹5.28-5.75 lakh
4 years 61-67% ₹3.51-3.85 lakh ₹4.74-5.21 lakh
5 years 55-61% ₹3.16-3.51 lakh ₹4.27-4.74 lakh

What moves the number:

  • Service record: a full authorised-service history adds real value.
  • Fuel type: CNG sells fast where CNG stations are dense, such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Pune. Elsewhere, petrol is easier to sell.
  • Kilometres and accidents: above about 15,000 km a year, expect the lower end of each band. Structural repairs hurt value most.

Tips to Lower Your Punch On-Road Price

  1. Buy insurance yourself. Compare the dealer’s premium with two online quotes on the same IDV and add-ons. It is often the easiest saving.
  2. Ask for an itemised quote. Question any “handling” or “logistics” line. Beyond ex-showroom, expect only road tax, registration, insurance and (above ₹10 lakh) TCS.
  3. Skip bundled accessories. Mats and mud flaps cost far less outside the showroom.
  4. Time your purchase. Festive, year-end, exchange and corporate offers vary by city. Ask two dealers and get offers in writing.
  5. Check CSD pricing if you are eligible through defence service.
  6. Pick the right variant. The Adventure S petrol MT costs about ₹1.18 lakh less on-road than the Accomplished+ S petrol MT, and keeps the sunroof.
