What This Actually Means
The audio subwoofer isn't communicating with the vehicle's infotainment system, similar to a phone that won't connect to Bluetooth. The ECU has sent a command but received no response back from the subwoofer unit.
Audio Subwoofer Unit is Not Responding
The audio subwoofer isn't communicating with the vehicle's infotainment system, similar to a phone that won't connect to Bluetooth. The ECU has sent a command but received no response back from the subwoofer unit.
The body control module sends periodic communication handshakes to the subwoofer amplifier via CAN bus or dedicated audio network. It monitors for acknowledgment signals and response codes within a specific timeout window. If no valid response is received after multiple attempts, a timeout fault is recorded.
| Parameter | Normal Range | Fault Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Subwoofer Response Time | < 100 ms acknowledgment | > 500 ms or no response |
| Communication Attempts | Successful handshake on first attempt | Failed after 3+ consecutive attempts |
Code U2014 is a low-severity fault. Your vehicle is generally safe to drive to a workshop for diagnosis. However, do not ignore it indefinitely — low-severity codes often indicate developing problems that become expensive if neglected. Book a diagnostic appointment within 2–4 weeks. If you notice any additional symptoms (rough running, power loss, unusual smells), treat it as higher priority.
Once the fault is repaired, U2014 can be cleared using any OBD-II scanner. Connect the scanner, navigate to "Clear Codes" or "Erase DTCs," and confirm. The check engine light turns off immediately.
The code will return if the root cause was not actually fixed. The ECM re-detects the fault within 1–3 drive cycles and sets the code again.
